Introduction
This course is delivered to M.Sc. Information Security Class (University of Science & Technology) in Semester 2 (May - August 2017) by Dr. Gada Kadoda. It is based on "Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Methods Approaches" by Professor John W. Creswell published in 2009.
Reading & Resources
- Start by reading the introductory chapter to Creswell's 2003 edition of "Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Methods Approaches" (courtesy of Harvard University).
- Use resources posted weekly on Course Material as we move along the course topics to gain deeper understanding of the concepts and tools explored.
- Additional Resources and IT News are meant to give you food for the thought about this course's assignments and perhaps your M.Sc. project.
- Get used to some of the Useful Links like Google Scholar that appear on the blog's main page and discover more open access sites that are very important for researchers in developing countries.
Course Particulars
- Weekly Class on Sundays 4.30 – 6.30pm in Postgraduate Room. Please be on time for class.
- Mainly based on John W. Creswell’s book “Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Methods Approaches” (2009), in addition to own material:
o Research
Methods course to IT undergraduates (2008) and postgraduates (2016).
o Collaborative
work/publications on ethics of appropriate technology projects.
o Book
chapter on software engineering ethics.
- Includes interactive and hands-on coursework (refer to course evaluation on Class 1 slides).
- Adopts open book examination in which students are allowed to consult printed material such as course slides.
- Requires self-directed learning and group work, as well as motivation to change the status of IT research and profession in Sudan.
